I teach 8th grade U.S. History in California. This film fits in perfectly with our standards about immigration, labor movement, industrialization, western movement, etc. It shows the long passage to America, the uncertainty once here and how previous immigrants took care of recent ones, the dangers of the workplace, the prejudice toward new workers, the organization of labor unions, etc. It's thirty minutes long, easy to understand, (yet not too babyish, and it covers a lot in a short enough time to be finished in a typical school period. It would even be okay for high school juniors in U.S. History. I love this whole series.
